Magic: the Gathering
Friday Night Magic – Booster Drafts
Friday Night Magic is a long-standing tradition for Magic: the Gathering players!
Cost: $20+ (sometimes varies by set)
Frequency: weekly on Friday nights, 7pm
No preregistration needed (except for pre-release events), but letting us know you’ll be there helps us plan ahead. Call us at (805) 628-3048, contact us via social media, or visit us in person to reserve your spot.
Event cost includes 3 booster packs. Basic lands will be provided if you need them.
Prizes (typically booster packs, sometimes box toppers when available) will be awarded based on availability and number of rounds won. Occasionally we give out promo cards too when available.
Occasionally we will run a cube draft or chaos draft instead of a booster draft (typically a $5 entry fee). Contact us to find out what is planned for any specific week.
If we don’t have enough players for a full draft pod of 6, we will typically play Commander format instead. (Don’t have a Commander deck? No problem! Our regulars will often have extra decks to loan out, or you can purchase a pre-constructed deck from us.)
COmmander open play
Format: Casual Commander
Cost: Free
Frequency: weekly on Sundays (12pm), Wednesdays (6pm), and Fridays (6pm) (and any other time we have open tables!)
Commander is a popular constructed deck format for 3–5 players played with 100 card decks (usually 99 cards + 1 “commander”). The format is all about picking your hero and building a deck around them. Choose a legendary creature to serve as your commander and build the rest of your deck around their color identity and unique abilities. Players are only allowed one of each card in their deck, with the exception of basic lands, but they can use cards from throughout Magic’s history.

About Magic: the gathering
Created in 1993, Magic: the Gathering (M:tG, or just Magic) was the world’s first trading card game (TCG) (otherwise knowns as a collectible card game, or CCG). Players take turns battling one another by casting spells, summoning creatures, and using artifacts depicted on individual cards drawn from their personalized decks. Magic involves highly strategic gameplay that is customizable to any individual’s play style. It has been played by over 50 million players globally.
